When Immorality comes to Church
1 Corinthians 5:1-13; 6:12-7:40
The 1960's are often described as a time of sexual Revolution in America. In that decade there was a deliberate rejection of marriage as a prerequisite to sexual activity. New methods of birth control, cohabitation, legalized abortion, and a growing acceptance of homosexuality were just some of the results. Social revolution became organized through political movements and radical legislation in liberal courts. Movies, television, and more recently the emerging Internet provided support for the movement. Many in America hail the rejection of traditional marriage and the approval of sexual immorality as social progress.
Many Christians and churches have conformed to the spirit of our age. Acceptance or passive neglect of immorality among church members has tragically become the norm. As you study the lesson this week, examine how Paul dealt with immorality in the early church and seek to understand how these principles should be followed today.
